Solutions To Black On Black Crime Epidemic In America, Phase 1
Slavery has been a blight upon humanity since the dawn of civilization. It has impacted almost every culture and society that has existed in some way, shape, or form, America has been no exemption. The effects that slavery has had on American society have been varied and far reaching, leaving America’s former slaves socially divided and psychologically scarred as a people. The slow integration of the freed slaves has created a community that has been financially stymied, socially mistreated and plagued by a self destructive nature that has manifested as a social pattern that has been termed as “Black on Black Crime.”

Black on Black Crime has reached epidemic proportions and continues to be a social condition that is not being addressed by America’s government. The core elements that most contribute to the proliferation of this condition are: misuse of economic power, the residual effect of Slavery’s social conditioning, and the lack of a culture identity. The correction to these core contributing elements may prove to be the best way to stem the continued spread of this social epidemic.
Freddie Gray, Mike Brown, and Trayvon Martin could’ve been any of our brothers, cousins, or friends. My heart and prayers goes out to their families. I know how it is to lose a family member due to a violent death. Police brutality is the hot topic these days, especially with the riots in Baltimore and in Ferguson. Its obvious that our young men and women needs to be better trained on how to properly deal with law enforcement when they encounter them. If the schools aren’t going to prepare our youth then its imperative that we as parents, mentors, and concerned citizens do.
Nielsen Company research projects that Black America’s buying power will increase from 1.1 trillion dollars in 2015 to 1.4 trillion dollars by 2019. This sounds good, but when African-Americans spend over three-quarters of their money outside of their communities, it has an overall negative effect on the black community. Black America consumes more than it produces and complains about a lack of jobs in its community while continuing to financially support companies outside of its community. This perceived lack of jobs and career opportunities fuels anger and breeds violence. Black on black crime rates are staggering, with an average of 9,200 deaths a year. Since my birth in 1980, there have been over 325,000 deaths of black people at the hands of other blacks, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
We may not have all the answers but we have created the “The Black On Black Solutions Panel” to find the best one. To be honest it will take years to stop the bleeding of our kings on the streets. Allowing people to vent and express their anger through riots, boycotts, and marches are a few options to deal with the injustice in the black community but if we direct toward those energies towards solutions to the problems then we will something special in our hands.
