Kevin Dorival, 32, sat before his fifth grade teacher on Friday and handed her one final writing assignment – his first published book – and the biggest thank you a teacher could ask for.

It was the first time in more than 20 years that Sonji Wyche saw her student since he graduated from Park Ridge Elementary School in Deerfield Beach in 1992. But he said her lessons still inspire him, and he thanks her for that in his autobiography, “The Courage to Believe.”

“I’m elated that he thought of me. He didn’t have to remember me,” Wyche, 48, said. “I’ve been thanked before but not this big … I’m honored.”

Dorival said he found Wyche through Facebook. The pair decided to meet on Friday, before Dorival honors her during his book signing Saturday at 2 p.m. at the African-American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale.

Dorival, a mentor and inspirational speaker, “was always an ‘I can’ and ‘I will’ kid, a very hard worker … he hasn’t changed,” said Wyche, who now teaches at Parkway Middle School in Lauderhill. “Still looks the same, the same smile. He’s just taller, but he’s still shy.” Click, here to read more…

4. What made you write these book, “7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire” & “The Courage To Believe?” And where are the books sold?
5. Can you explain the catalyst for the Annual Black On Black Crime Solutions Panel back in 2014? Your nonprofit organization changed the name of the event to Annual Community Crime Solutions Panel – why?
6. What did you mean when you said,”You lost your innocence before you lost your virginity on your Courage To Believe book trailer video?“
7. Your biggest challenge was graduating from college. Why was it so difficult?
8. What would you like for teens and young adults to get from your book, “The Courage To Believe?”
9. You ended up in jail at the age of 22. What made you get involved in the street life? How did you get out of it? Any advice?
10. Our teens have so many negative influences in their lives. What would you say is the solution to this epidemic?
11. You love your country Haiti even though you’ve only been there once in 2016. What would you do differently in running the country if you were the president?

7. You mentioned that your book is more than just a book – its a spiritual experience. Why must all women read your book 7 Types of Queens?

9. You wrote about queens in 7 Types of Queens, but what about the men? When will “7 Types of Kings, Queens Desire” be released?
10. Your book has been compared to the NASA movie Hidden Figures– is that a good comparison and why?
11. Why is it in your opinion that men, particularly black men are scared of love, commitment, and marriage?
12. The roles of the households aren’t the same anymore. Women aren’t as nurturing and men are becoming too feminine these days. Why is that?
