Dreams are shattered everyday until special people with a knack for never giving up on a vision rise up to lead. Once a great man named of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. caused every voice to be lifted to sing in love, peace, and harmony in order to awaken a dream of unity that had long lain dormant.

I was in the fourth grade when I read a book about Dr. King. The emotions I felt after reading about how this man’s bravery led a nation to march in peace when our country was in chaos.

I was inspired to want to be passionate about making life better for others. In 2014, I have directed those passions into resurrecting the dreams of our teenagers and young adults.

As a 34 year old educated black man, I represent the dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as the hopes of my African and Haitian ancestors. This knowledge gives me the motivation to continue to make a positive impact on my community, the nation, and the world.

Many of our family members made great sacrifices to see us live out our dreams. Remember, our dreams aren’t just dreams, they are much more. We have a mission and an opportunity to allow our parent’s unrealized dreams to be realized through our successes as a wives, husbands, entrepreneurs, teachers, or any number of achievements that may have been beyond their grasp.

With so many having sacrificed so much before us, we must strive to never give up. As you press forward, your determination will encourage others. Your persistence, like Dr. King’s, could possibly inspire a generation. Your dream is more than a vision when your eyes are closed – IT’S YOUR DESTINY!
