What does the number one movie in the world, Black Panther, have in common with the book, 7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire? For starters, it’s hard to ignore the prominent roles Black women have in the movie. The all-female army of Wakanda reminds me of the legendary African Dahomey Amazon warrior queens and Queen Nzinga of the Congo. Who happened to be the most feared warriors in the West African country. March is Women’s History Month and it’s a great time to reflect and to understand the significance of women since the beginning of time.

Throughout the Black Panther movie ($1.2 billion @ the box office as of 3/21/18!!!) there were several references to Bastet or Bast (sounds like Baas), the huge Black Panther that was shown in the beginning of the film. Towards the end of the film there was a majestic tree with multiple sparkling diamond-eyed panthers relaxing on the branches. A year ago I posted a snippet of the “Black Cat Theory,” which is a bonus chapter in my book:

“At one point in time black cats were like the rock stars of the animal kingdom where they were held in high esteem, highly favored and were known for protecting people from different evil spirits and entities. In reality, the only thing negative about black cats is the propaganda against them, which was created by those in our society whose intentions were to create a cloud of bad luck on them and give them a negative connotation by making them the butt of superstitions. The origin of superstitions surrounding black cats, including why a black cat crossing your path is considered bad luck, was created by those who understood their WORTH, PROMINENCE and VALUE, but wanted the masses to become disconnected from them and fear them at the same time…”

I was thrilled to watch the movie and understood what the writers were doing – connecting us with our powerful ancestors and the present. Black cats aren’t bad luck at all. On the contrary, they’re the exact opposite. They are precious and beautiful and meant to be honored in respect to goddess Bastet. This is what our ancient African ancestors believed.

Now, I’m not saying to go find a big or small black feline to worship and praise. However, I am saying that we are living in a time when being ignorant of our past will haunt us in the future. I’ve received mixed reviews about the controversy on what I wrote in the “Mother God” and “The Black Cat Theory” chapters in my book, 7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire. I would explain here why there was a Mother God before there was a Father God concept in the cradle of civilization – Mother Africa, but I did elaborate in the book.
