Time Is Energy, Not Money
August started a new era in my adult life. It was the first time I wasn’t worried about paying the rent or any of my bills, and I love it! Due to the economic climate that America is currently in, I am sure many of you can relate to the constant battle to make ends meet.
The cliché, “Time is money,” couldn’t be further from the truth. Time is energy, not money. When we reduce ourselves to the world’s standards, we block out God’s standards.

I’ve learned over the years to do my best and to trust God that all will be well. We can drive ourselves up the wall by overworking our nerves until the point of insanity. Life becomes so much easier when we believe that our hard work will pay off.
My all time favorite quote by the honorable Marcus Garvey, is “With confidence, you have won before you have started.” Without confidence, perseverance, and tenacity, I would not have been able to get to the one-year anniversary of The King Kevin Show (August 13th) or to publish my first literary work or to have a second book on the horizon. Truth be told, at one point, I wanted to throw in the towel and cancel the show so that I could focus my energies on creating a glorious 2015 by releasing my forthcoming book, “7 Types of Queens That Kings Desire,” and premiering my soon to be completed film, “The Courage To Believe Documentary.”
Saving and raising the funds for these two projects is a challenge in itself, but I have a history of victory. All things are possible for those that believe.
The last week of July, I had to attend a meeting to answer questions for the Creative Investment Grant board in order to qualify for a grant worth $2,000 at the downtown Fort Lauderdale main library. On that day, I was so busy and productive that I would have loved to have had a helicopter or chauffeur to shuttle me between my meetings in Broward and Palm Beach counties. After fighting my way downtown, the parking meter taking five dollars from me and the stop and go traffic that is the hallmark of the downtown area, I began to think that I would be late. As the sweat began to bead upon my brow, I quickly reminded myself not to worry. My subconscious began saying, “You’ve done all you can to get to this point. Now, its time to trust in God.”
After arriving in a timely fashion and navigating a series of questions regarding my project, the panel members stated that they wanted to know more about my film. One of the panelist stated, “I wish you had a trailer or a sample to show us? Do you have one, Mr. King Kevin?” I replied, “Yes, as a matter fact, I do. The link was submitted with my application. Can I play it for everyone?” The other panel judges all nodded their heads in agreement that they would like to see it as well. Even though the Youtube link to the trailer was submitted with the application, unbeknownst to me, some of the judges had missed it and now, I was being given a golden opportunity to play my short documentary trailer from my website, www.kevindorival.com. After playing the eighty second clip, I received a round of applause from the audience of fellow grant seekers and the panel members. In that moment, I knew that I had captured their hearts. The energy in the room shifted from one of tension to one of relaxation. I was elated and my heart, silently, leapt for joy as I was awarded the grant. The smile on my face shone like VVS diamonds floating across the Atlantic Ocean under the bright summer sun. One of the panel members gave me the contact information for a much larger grant with the Broward Sheriff Office in hopes that they would see value in the documentary’s goal of helping our youth to avoid prison and poverty.
God is so good.
